County to Wretched Rabbit - 20 July 2008

Cavers: Tim, Sooty, Tony and George

The rain fell heavily for days but sod it we’ll go caving…

The cult took Tim’s x-trail so Sooty picked him up in the van and we listened to the Geoff show on the way to the Dales.

Sooty bought a new oversuit and Tony a new wetsuit in Inglesport before we had a fine breakfast.

A trek across the moors saw us at County and Tim checked out the WR exit and was concerned to see a stream going into it.

“It’ll be reet” was the call from Tony and Sooty.

A nice pull through on the first pitch soon saw us lost between the pitches for an hour but we eventually found spout hall and poetic justice – where a fixed rope sped things up.

Sooty tried taking me up the Trident Series !!! – no puns please but I found the right way.

After much cursing of the rope bag and trying to pass it off on Tony (and a few wrong turns) we got to the hole in the floor where we (except George, who’d gone on strike) went off towards Pool Sink.

Some lovely pretties and some nice sideways crawling saw us in a chamber where a knotted rope hung down – RETREAT!!!!

A climb up the fixed ropes (George SRTd) saw us out (by a different exit ti the one I looked down! – Sooty and Tony wound me up saying it was flooded!)

Nice beer and food at Marton Arms then more Geoff show on the way home…
