those present – Sooty & George
Described by Sooty as a nice day out in the country with a small, but interesting trip down Link Pot, exiting via Mistral.
Began with a long walk o’er hills from Bull Pot Farm and ended with a knackering walk back.
The 15m entrance shaft of Link Pot is described as narrow for the first 6m. As a portly novice I would call it bloody tight, and achieved only by no skill and lots of gravity. I was glad we were exiting by Mistral, the thought of having to prusik back up kept me motivated as we struggled to find our way through.
Lots of inlets, chokes, avens, crawls, mud, wet and more mud passed by whilst we tried to keep on track for the link to Mistral. Kept thinking about prusiking back out of Link.
Who writes these instructions for the caves – do they also compile cryptic crosswords for the Daily Telegraph? Maybe they’re clear and we’re stupid.
Nevertheless, we did lose our way several times, which meant crawling through an incredibly tight passage twice, once forwards, and once backwards.
Dusty Junction, made it at last, now we knew we were connected with Mistral. Lots more rocks passed by, quickly. Arrived at the exit, a 6m free climbable pitch, which requires a little attention, and a lot of nerve. It’s one of those which is a lot easier going down.
Did I already say? It’s a knackering walk back to the car.
