Lancaster Hole – Easegill, 29 February2004

Or (lets just do a quick trip down Calf Holes…)

Present:  Richard “Sooty” Sutton, Tim Hallam, Paul Humphreys and Nigel Kinge.

 

I was awoken by a bang!  The mobile had vibrated of the window ledge and “Lancaster” was the message.

 

Error 1 – I only charged my lamp for 4 hours for Calf Holes

 

Error 2 – We let Paul bring a survey

 

Error 3 – Sooty agreeing to a through trip as a way of avoiding the Lancaster prusik

 

Some nice sausage butties in Bernies and off to the hole.

 

Error 4 – Putting an out time of 7pm on the board (surely plenty of time…..)

 

Error 5 – Letting Tim rig the entrance pitch, wrong 1st rebelay…

 

1-2 hours

We all abseiled in and had a great look up Slugworld with its many formations then

down Kath’s way, enjoyment factor 10/10

3-4 Hours

 

Abseiled down scary bit in Fall Pot (how did we use those fixed ladders in the old

days) and down the vertical boulder choke to the streamway.  Looked at sump and stomped upstream admiring the amazing flowstone, enjoyment factor 10/10

5-6 Hours

 

Got lost in various boulder chokes, turned back, various lamps failed, enjoyment factor – 0/10

 

7-8 Hours

 

Sooty’s lamp failed in vertical boulder choke, prusiked up fixed rope (brown trouser time) and got lost around top of fall pot, enjoyment factor 1/10

 

8 to 9.5 Hours

 

Up entrance shaft, Sooty got hung up, great view down pitch, enjoyment factor 1/10
