Calf Holes & Birkwith – Sunday 25th April 2004

On Driving to Sooty’s the mobile beeped to inform Tim that Paul was ill and hence Tim was to do the Old Ing alone.

 

After picking up Sooty Tim was subjected to a CD “singing” about reducing Brazilian prison population by shooting them.

 

At Bernies we met up with Nigel and had a chin wag and sausage/bacon butties whilst admiring the photos of the naked female caver on the wall.

 

Off to Calf Holes with a scrape of the car’s sump along the way…

 

Lovely day and we laughed at the stupid 3 peaks runners in the blazing sun.

 

Tim informed the team that he had a rope but no mallions or stop!

 

At the entrance to Calf Holes we met 2 other cavers who were setting out on their own…

 

Nice abseil in and a crawl upstream allowed us to see some lovely formations and

Back

without a worry.  After some more crawling and climbing down the bypass we posed for photos in the waterfall chamber and headed out.

We rescued the rope and dumped some gear at the car before a jolly trip to Birkwith and inserting Nigel and Dale into the canal.

Then we actually managed over an hour sat in the sun outside the Hill Inn enjoying some ale, CLASS!!!!
