Mistral to Gour Hall - 9th Jan 2005

 

 

Present: Sooty, George, Tim, Tony and Lee

 

Perfect caving conditions?

 

Two and a half inches of rain fell in the dales the previous day and Carlisle was under 10 foot of water. Let go caving….

 

The drive up saw Sooty shouting comments such as “You know that river where you can usually see rocks????” and “Was there a 2 mile long lake in that valley before?”

 

Tony (coming from Newcastle) drove through coned off road with water up to the sills of his car….

 

Inglesport

 

Tony and his magic credit card obtained £200 of gear, whilst Lee hire gear for £2.  Tim (as always the big spender) spent £22 on knee pads.  Two sausage butties and 3 bacon butties and we were ready to drive passed fallen trees and flood washed roads.

 

The cave

 

Sooty wanted to change in Bull Pot farm but we took the piss – so he gave in and shrunk his willy in the cold layby.

 

We try to tell Lee (on this, his first ever caving trip) that Lancaster was the entrance – I think he would have gone for it!!!

squeezes and low sections and we reached Gour Hall in just under two hours.

 

Once some photos were taken in Gour Hall we looked at the old digs before finding Extreme Ways which Tim was keen to see as it was discovered since his last trip here.

 

What a ridiculous passage – it was even too low for Tony.  Someone blast the bugger!
