27th - 30th October 2005 Sistema Hundidero - Gato

Cavers: Sooty, Paul, Tony, George and Tim.

At last the return to Hundidero-Gato was made after last year’s “exciting – one welly, dehydration” trip had receded into Sooty’s, Paul’s and George’s selective memories…

The Goodfellows went out a few days before the rest of us to enjoy some walking etc.

The Humphreys family eventually booked their flights (Paul said that he wished he had left it until the day before!!!!).

The car with Sooty, Amy, Tim and Tony in was picked up and already the brakes were down to the metal….

Tim stayed at the mansion del Sutton and enjoyed watching the Goats wander past early in the morning.  Tony stayed at the other house and enjoyed the snoring del Paul.

Fri: went caving (Hundidero-Gato ) – 7 hours of swimming, climbing and enjoying the formations. Tony lost an expensive fin whilst Tim’s accelerator fins (value = 7p approx) survived!!!. Everyone enjoyed the traverse and Tony found an alternative route to the worn rope on the second pitch. Less bat guano than the previous year. Later a barbeque – lovely.

Thurs: We all went for a nice walk up the mountain and Tony climbed down a cave with no light (Sima de la Reja). Paul played with poisonous discarded undies and toadstools and we gathered pine cones for the fire. Then off to a nice restaurant for red wine and lemonade and a load of kebabs.

Sat: Went to the pottery shop place and the wine museum in Ojen where Paul impressed us with his knowledge of vino.  We returned back to the house with presents for home. Then out until 3am in Juan’s bar where Sooty played poker dice with the locals and the rest of us drank (lots.)

Sun: Sooty, Tony and Tim did 2 caves (Cueva del Tajo de Jorox and Cueva del Algarrobo.) The obvious entrance was rubbish but on the opposite side of the valley was a nice cave of Derbyshire proportions which had many levels and a few bats…

Returned home at 3am Monday morning thanks to Sleasyjet’s delays.

GREAT HOLIDAY
