Cavers: Sooty & Tony

With one final chance to get a cave done in 2005 and everyone else crying off on some lame excuse Tony & Sooty met up in Inglesport for the obligatory Cavers breakfast then off to Bull Pot Farm to do Link Pot

The excellent tight absail in and the magnificent Hilton Hall were enjoyed but it was soon down to hands and knees crawling through puddles. A wrong turn saw a quick detour to Damnation Aven then back via the brown trouser traverse that is The Canyon to our intended destination of the Serendipity series.

Two of the Serendipity pitches were descended before it was decided to turn back because of the dodgy spit we’d just absailed off and the water coming down the pitch was bloody freezing.

Back at the entrance Sooty had some difficulty getting out, partly because he’s too fat and partly because his rigging was crap. After some hasty re-rigging he eventually made it out, quickly to be followed by Tony.

Then the problems began.

It was dark, it was very foggy the path wasn’t too clear in places. Soon after climbing the hill out of the valley we lost the path. After 1¾ hours wandering around a field and following dry stone walls arguing about which direction to go in we arrived back at link pot. This time we just about managed to follow the path and eventually arrived back at the cars 2½ hours after exiting the cave.

The route not to take from Link Pot to Bull Pot Farm is illustrated below.
