Swinsto Pull Through

Saturday 16th Sept 2006

Cavers: Paul, Sooty, Tim and George.

On the Wednesday before the trip Tim asked “Do I need a wetsuit?” to which the answer was “No!”

On the Thursday before the trip 27mm of rain fell on the Dales….

On the day of the trip we met in Ingelsport and enjoyed a fine breakfast, Paul was amazed by the automatic light in the toilet and Sooty enjoyed the climbing photos in the toilet whilst curling out a large one…

Sooty was disappointed with Tim’s slow driving to the cave, Tim and Paul rigged valley 10mins in, 10mins rigged and 10 mins out.

By which time Sooty and George had walked to the top of the hill fully kitted, Tim and Paul went bare back!!!  Nice euphemism Tim

Paul forgot his cowstails and produced a new lightweight version from an improbably thin piece of frayed string and we were off down the nice entrance crawl.  The first 2 pitches were rigged already (we used our rope on the first one only).

The waterfalls were “sporting”on all the pitches, George loved them, however we did get a bit cold….

One pitch had a lovely elevated take off point.

The final pitch was radically wet but Tim still managed a smile…

Paul explained above the collapse at the base of the final pitch (which was dug out a few years back).

In the master cave George and Sooty caved out, whilst Paul and Tim searched for the Rowton sumps without success. However a few nice bits of cave were seen.

Great trip – the highlight being Paul threadbare undies on dekitting…

Off to the Marton Arms for 2 x game pie and 1 x fish ‘n’ chips (Paul was disappointed with the lack of leftovers….).
