Due to having paid for the insurance Tim was keen to use it to go effect and book a trip the Peak Cavern. He was determined not just to do the usual Peak trip…
All the gang met up in the main car park and (due to Castleton being full of cars in the free spots) had the paid £5 parking, followed by £4 to get into the cave!
Due to being keen we were changed in the TSG Chapel and up at the cave for 9-
Some interesting conversions were had whilst waiting for the cave to be opened up.
We were soon underway and enjoyed a slide down the Devils staircase – Tony shunted Tim up the arse due to a low coefficient of friction on Tony’s wetsuit and Sooty shunted up Paul’s arse due to greater acceleration down the slide….
Soon in Treasury chamber and Tim raised SEP sump by siphoning his python,,,
Paul was impressed that the gate could be passed and we were soon up the ladder and Tim was giving a guided tour to Tony, with all the place names…
The story of the dig to avoid the Wind pipe was well received.
Going through the Trenches Sooty and Tony were grumbling obsenities and Tim was thinking “I’d better not let them know that it gets a lot worse!”
The squeeze at the base of the Ventilator was enjoyed by all (The squeeze at the base of the Ventilator was renamed 'Sphincter Squeeze' by Sooty and Paul)
and then the fun began.

Sooty’s Tourette’s worsened and Paul rushed off ahead. Suddenly Paul said “Should I be hearing a wall of water?” Tim reassured everyone that we pop out at the top of a 25m ladder. Sooty then worsened his Tourette’s as he reminded everyone how much he hated ladders.
We were overjoyed to see the ladders and soon were taking photos at the bottom.
Then we were stomping along streamway for a full 50 yards before we took the short bypass (the troops nearly revolted) then but in the streamway where we had butties and onto block hall (we will return here!!!!).
Then onto the Bung – nice waterfall.
Tony eventually challenged Tim to brave the waterfall and he did but we were turned back after 5 minutes in Speedwell main canal by the cold….
We then returned (as a storm was expected), Sooty in the crawl back stated that “This was the hardest cave ever” and “I will never return”.
A look at Treasury sump (which Sooty declined) then back out for a pint at the Castle Inn.
Can’t wait for a return match will the Crawl…
