Notts II

18th November 2007

Cavers – Sooty, Tony, Tim and George.

A few years ago Tim saw a presentation at the BCRA conference about the then newly opened entrance to Notts II. It took a few years but eventually we made it down!

Tim picked Sooty up and drove over the Rochdale moors (where it was trying to snow). It had been raining lots of the previous few days but what the hell?

After breakfast at Ingelsport we headed for Leck Fell.

Sooty’s GPS decided to work 3 seconds before our turning off the way road.

Tony was alarmed by the country roads we took him and his Lotus up but we soon were at the Leck Fell car park for a grade 4 change (although Sooty and Tony used Tim’s car – leaving Tim out in the cold!!!

After a short walk we were at Notts II and Tim led the way down the entrance 50m (Tim, the height of this climb gets bigger every time you tell this story) deep series of ladders and scaffolding.

Then George and Tim (in furries) headed out and the other went to see the upstream sump (which links to Notts pot).  Sooty and Tony soon caught the furry boys up and we climbed out and went to the Marton arms for grub.

Quote of the day- George “I didn’t notice any breeze blocks in the entrance shaft!”

Ace trip,

Tim

A committing slide down the slope and we soon were in the streamway. A wander down to the downstream sump (insert PIC!!!).

Then a wander upstream, where Tony did the rope ladder and then on to a large column above the streamway which was an interesting climb up.

We continued upstream past Vlad the impailer, which we thought looked more like an elephant’s trunk and ear, to curry inlet with its nice formations. George went on strike whilst Tony and Sooty dragged Tim up the final crawl to a nice clacited pebble feature.
